- “Water still in the drum at the end”
- “It hums but nothing empties”
- “Clothes are wringing wet after the spin”
Symptom
Fisher & Paykel washing machine will not drain or spin
A cycle that ends with water in the drum, or clothes that come out soaking. Ordinary laundry work on machines this maker no longer sells here — which changes the parts conversation and nothing about the diagnosis.
- From $95 diagnostic, credited to the repair
- 59 cities and neighborhoods covered
- OEM parts available on order
- In writing the price, before anything is opened
Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The pump filter or trap
Where the machine has one. Free, quick, and the commonest single finding.
Washer drain & pump repair from $145 -
The drain hose or standpipe
Kinked behind the machine, or a standpipe that has silted up. Outside the appliance.
Washer drain & pump repair from $145 -
The drain pump
Humming and moving nothing, or silent. Tested under load rather than by continuity.
Washer drain & pump repair from $145 -
The lid or door lock
A machine that cannot confirm the lid is shut will not spin, and it looks like a spin failure rather than a lock one.
Washer spin, balance & lock repair from $175 -
An out-of-balance load
The machine abandoning the spin on purpose. Free to test with a redistributed load.

In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Listen at the drain step
Humming and silent are different diagnoses and it costs nothing to tell them apart.
-
02
Clear the filter or trap
Have a towel ready. What comes out is usually the explanation.
-
03
Straighten the hose
Behind the machine and where it enters the standpipe.
-
04
Redistribute and try one spin
A single heavy item on one side will stop a spin on a perfectly healthy machine.
-
05
Then book the visit
Say whether it hums, and whether the drum turns at all during the spin step.

About Fisher & Paykel washing machine will not drain or spin
The fastest diagnosis is the code
Listen while it tries to drain. A machine that hums has a motor turning against a blockage; a silent one has a pump or a control that never started. Then find the filter or trap if your machine has one and clear it — coins, buttons and ten years of lint do not pass through a pump politely, and this is where a surprising share of these end.
The path the water takes
Out of the drum, through a filter or trap where the machine has one, into a pump, along a hose, and into a standpipe. Every one of those can stop it and two of them are not the appliance. That is why the first ten minutes of this are yours rather than ours.
Drain and spin are different problems
A machine that will not drain has water in it. A machine that will not spin may have drained perfectly and simply refused the spin — because the lid lock will not confirm, or because the load will not balance. They arrive as one call and they separate immediately.
The parts caveat, said up front
Pumps, hoses, locks and suspension parts are usually available for these machines. Control boards on a discontinued line are the risk. Availability is confirmed before anything is ordered and before you agree to a figure, and where a machine is not worth the part you are told at the diagnosis.

Before you book
Questions about fisher & Paykel washing machine will not drain or spin
Can you still repair these? The brand does not sell washers here.
Yes. What has changed is the parts conversation, not the diagnosis. This maker's US support base lists a laundry category with no machines in it while it continues to sell laundry spare parts and stacking kits — machines in service, no machines for sale. Common wear items are usually available; model-specific electronics are the risk, and we check before we order rather than after.
It drains but will not spin.
Then look at the lock and the balance before the motor. A machine that cannot confirm the lid is closed will refuse to spin, and a load that will not balance makes the machine abandon the spin deliberately. Both are far more common than a failed motor and one of them is free to test.
Why is there no code list for laundry on this site?
Because the maker publishes none for this market any more, and we build every table on this site from what it publishes. A code list copied from elsewhere that turns out to describe a different machine costs you a visit, so we would rather work from what your machine is actually doing.
