Symptom

Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer will not start

A drawer that lights up and refuses to run, or one that does not light at all. Four free causes before any part, and one of them — the machine having shut itself down on purpose — is the one people never guess.

  • From $95 diagnostic, credited to the repair
  • 59 cities and neighborhoods covered
  • OEM parts available on order
  • In writing the price, before anything is opened

Five ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

In five minutes

Before you call anybody

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

  1. 01

    Dry hands, one press

Genuinely. It is free and it is the maker's own first cause.

  2. 02

    Look for a lock indicator

A padlock symbol or a lit lock light. Press and hold the button under it for a few seconds to clear it.

  3. 03

    Push the drawer firmly shut

Not slammed — closed until it latches. A drawer resting on a tall item will not start and will not tell you why.

  4. 04

    A minute at the breaker

A full minute, not a flick. A control that locked up after a storm often comes back on its own, and this is the cheapest repair in the trade.

  5. 05

    Then book the visit

Say whether the panel lights at all, whether it stopped mid-cycle before this started, and which drawer.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “The panel responds but the cycle never begins”
  • “It stopped mid-cycle earlier and has not run since”
  • “The controls do not respond at all”
Condensation beading on the inside of a large window in a bright kitchen, palms and hard sunlight blurred beyond the glass, the edge of a white counter and a stainless door catching the light at the bottom of the frame.

About Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer will not start

The fastest diagnosis is the code

Dry your hands and try again — these are capacitive touch controls and water on a fingertip genuinely confuses them. Then check the control lock, which is easy to set without meaning to, and check whether the panel is simply in sleep mode. Those three are the maker's own published causes for "controls not working", and between them they end a good share of these calls.

Four free causes before a part

The maker publishes three of them under "controls not working" — wet fingers, the control lock and sleep mode — and the fourth is a drawer that has not quite latched. None of them is a repair and all four are the reason this page exists before the control-and-motor page.

The cause nobody guesses

A machine that stopped mid-cycle at some point and has refused to run since may be holding itself off deliberately. These have flood detection, and once the appliance has seen water in its base it will not simply forget. From the front it is indistinguishable from a failed control; underneath, there is water.

What to say when you book

Whether the panel lights at all, whether anything happened before this started, and which drawer on a double. Those three answers decide what goes on the van.

Questions about fisher & Paykel DishDrawer will not start

The whole panel is dead.

Then start at the supply rather than the appliance. A breaker, a switch behind a cabinet that somebody turned off during a repair, or a connection at the machine. After that, sleep mode and a full minute at the breaker. Only then is it a control.

It beeps when I press but does nothing.

That is a machine that is receiving your instruction and declining it, which is very different from a dead one. Usually the drawer is not latched, the lock is on, or the machine is holding itself off after seeing water. All three are findable in five minutes.

One drawer starts and the other will not.

They are two machines with two controllers, so this is entirely possible. Check the simple causes on the dead one — latch, lock, load — and keep using the other one meanwhile.
