Fisher & Paykel speed & convection microwave oven repair
Twenty-eight of this maker's ovens are compact convection-speed machines — an oven with a microwave system inside it — plus a pair of over-the-range combinations. When one of these fails to heat, the first question is which of its two heating systems, because they are separate and only one of them is safe to work on.

01
Which system is not working
These machines cook two ways. Convection failing and microwave failing are entirely different repairs in the same box, and a machine where one works proves a great deal about the other before anything is opened.
-
02
Read the code for what it is
A1 is the oven cavity overheating. A5 is the microwave system overheating. Same machine, different halves, and the maker publishes both with the same remedy — let it cool, power down, power up.
-
03
Cooling before components
A speed oven overheats when its cooling cannot keep up, and it is built into cabinetry. Blocked vents, a failing cooling fan or a clearance the installation never had produce repeated A5 codes on a machine with nothing else wrong.
-
04
The convection side, measured
Element, sensor, relay and fan — the same measurements as any oven, and the same cheap-part-first order.
-
05
The microwave side, safely
The high-voltage section of a microwave holds a charge with the power off and is not something to open at home under any circumstances. It is discharged and tested properly or it is not touched.
The money
What this usually costs in South Florida
The starting figure, the range the market quotes around it, and what pushes a job to either end.
-
Oven control & display repair cost
Control boards, displays and touch panels on a built-in machine — plus the sixty-odd F numbers the maker publishes without individual meanings. The free reset comes before the figure, every time.
- Researched market range for South Florida: oven control boards $220–$600
- Display and control are often two parts
- The maker's own reset tried first, and it is free

The largest row on this site: a hundred and ten wall ovens, and a third of them cook with steam. Forty-five are self-cleaning ovens, thirty-eight are combi-steam machines, twenty-eight are compact convection-speed ovens with a microwave system inside them, and six are doubles. A steam oven is a plumbed appliance with a boiler in it, and it does not fail the way an oven fails.
- A display that is on while the oven does not heat
- A door locked after a self-clean cycle and staying locked
- A steam oven that will not fill, or leaves water where it should not

About Fisher & Paykel speed & convection microwave oven repair
Two ovens in one box
A convection-speed oven has a conventional heating and convection system and a microwave system, sharing a cavity, a door and a control. Twenty-eight of this maker's ovens are built that way, plus a pair of over-the-range combination machines. Which system has stopped is the first and most useful question.
What the maker publishes
A1 for the oven cavity overheating and A5 for the microwave system overheating, both with the same remedy — cool, power down, power up. A repeated A5 is usually about cooling and installation rather than a failed component.
The one warning on this site
The high-voltage section of a microwave stores a charge after the appliance is unplugged. Every other page here has something free you can check yourself. This one does not, and we would rather say that plainly than be polite about it.

Before you book
Questions about fisher & Paykel speed & convection microwave oven repair
It heats as an oven but not as a microwave.
Then the shared parts — power, control, door switches — are largely proved good, and the search is inside the microwave section. That is a genuinely useful thing to know before booking, and it is free to establish: run a short convection cycle and see.
Can I open it up myself to check something?
Not this one. The high-voltage capacitor in a microwave section holds a dangerous charge after the appliance is unplugged, and it does not announce itself. This is the one appliance on this whole site where we say plainly: do not open it. Everything else here has a free check you can do; this does not.
A5 keeps coming back.
Then look at the installation rather than the appliance. A5 is the microwave system overheating, and a machine that overheats repeatedly with nothing wrong inside it is usually one that cannot get rid of its heat: a blocked vent, a cooling fan that has slowed, or a cabinet cut without the clearance the instructions asked for. That last one is common in a kitchen that was renovated around an appliance.
Is a speed oven worth repairing?
Usually, because it is built in and replacing it is a cabinetry job as well as an appliance one. The exception is the microwave section on an older machine where the magnetron and the high-voltage components have both gone — at that point you get the arithmetic and our honest view of it.
