Fisher & Paykel dryer heating repair
A drum that turns with no heat in it, or heat that cuts out part-way through a cycle. What is behind it depends entirely on which kind of dryer you have — vented, condenser or heat pump — because only one of the three has a heating element in the ordinary sense.

01
Which machine this is
Vented, condenser or heat pump. It is the first question and it changes everything after it: on a vented machine no heat is usually an element or a thermostat; on a heat pump there is no element at all and the answer is a refrigerant circuit or its controls.
-
02
Airflow before elements
A restricted machine overheats, trips its cut-out and then produces no heat at all — which looks exactly like a failed element and is not. On a vented dryer the whole duct run to the outside wall is part of this check, and it is outside the appliance.
-
03
The thermal chain
Element, cycling thermostat and thermal cut-out are tested as a chain rather than individually, because a cut-out that has opened has usually been opened by something else, and replacing it alone means doing this again.

Heat pump: diagnose, do not guess
A heat pump dryer that has become slow is filters and the heat exchanger long before it is the sealed circuit. The circuit itself is diagnosed properly and quoted separately, and the starting figure on this page is a starting figure only.

Dryer repair cost
Heating, airflow and moisture sensing across vented, condenser and heat pump machines. A large share of these end outside the appliance, in a duct run, which is why the figure starts where it does.

The same situation as the washers: Fisher & Paykel lists no dryer for the United States today, and the ones in South Florida laundry rooms are still working and still repairable. What is worth knowing before you call is which kind you have — vented, condenser or heat pump — because the three fail in completely different places, and only one of them is about a duct.
- Long cycles, or clothes still damp at the end of one
- A drum that turns with no heat, or heat that cuts out part-way
- Water where a condenser or heat pump machine should be emptying itself

About Fisher & Paykel dryer heating repair
Three machines with one complaint
Vented dryers heat with an element and push the wet air outside. Condenser dryers heat the same way and cool the air inside the machine instead. Heat pump dryers have no element at all — they move heat around a refrigerant circuit, which makes them slow and cool by design. "No heat" means three different things on those three machines.
Why airflow is checked before the element
Because a restricted dryer trips its own thermal cut-out, and a tripped cut-out produces exactly the no-heat symptom people book as a dead element. Replacing the element on a machine with a blocked duct gets you a second failure and a second bill. The duct is free to check and it is outside the appliance.
South Florida, specifically
A laundry closet with no airflow, a duct that turns twice before it reaches an outside wall, and eight humid months a year. On a vented machine that combination produces more no-heat and slow-drying calls than any component failure does.

Questions about fisher & Paykel dryer heating repair
The drum turns but there is no heat.
On a vented machine: element, cycling thermostat or thermal cut-out, and the cut-out has usually been tripped by restricted airflow rather than by age. On a heat pump machine there is no element — the heat comes from a refrigerant circuit — so the same symptom is a completely different repair. Which kind you have is the first thing we ask.
How do I know which kind I have?
Look for a duct. A vented dryer has a hose or pipe going out through a wall. A condenser dryer has no duct and a water container you empty or a drain hose. A heat pump dryer also has no duct, empties the same way, and runs cooler and longer than either by design.
It heats and then stops heating half-way.
That is the classic airflow signature: the machine heats normally until the trapped heat trips a protective thermostat, then runs cold for the rest of the cycle. Lint filter, internal duct, and on a vented machine the full run to the outside wall. It is free to check and it is the commonest cause of this exact complaint.
Are parts still available?
For heating elements, thermostats, belts and rollers, usually — this maker still runs a laundry spare-parts section. Boards on a discontinued line are the risk. As everywhere on this site, availability is confirmed before anything is ordered and you are told plainly when a machine is not worth the part.
