Fisher & Paykel appliance maintenance visit

The things this maker's own guides ask an owner to do, done properly and all at once: condensers, filters, seals, descaling, spray arms, ducts. Priced per visit rather than per appliance, which is what makes it worth doing on a kitchen where most of the machines come from one maker.

On the visit

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Refrigeration

Condenser cleaned — the single most useful thing in this climate — door seals read and cleaned, filters checked and dated, and the ice maker's water path looked at rather than assumed.

  2. 02

    Dishwashing

Filters and filter plates out and cleaned properly, spray arms checked for seating and blockage, and on a DishDrawer the lid seal cleaned, which is a horizontal seal and collects what falls on it.

  3. 03

    Cooking

Burner caps and ports on gas, ventilation and clearance on induction, and — on a combi-steam oven — the descale cycle run properly, which is the maintenance this line needs most and gets least.

  4. 04

    Laundry

Duct run checked end to end on a vented dryer, both filters on a ductless one, sensor bars cleaned, and the washer's level and hoses looked at.

  5. 05

A written note of what we found

Including the things that are fine. A maintenance visit that reports nothing is a maintenance visit you cannot check.

  • A tall integrated refrigerator column standing open in a bright coastal kitchen, glass shelves neatly filled with vegetables and glass bottles, cool even interior light, pale oak cabinetry either side.

Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair in Miami

Fifty-one machines in the current line, and twenty-four of them are Integrated — built into the cabinetry behind your own door panels rather than standing in an opening. Columns that pair a refrigerator with a freezer beside it, French door and quad door machines that stand on the floor, and the CoolDrawer, a drawer that can be run as anything from a freezer to a chiller.

    • A fresh-food side going warm while the freezer stays cold
    • An ice maker that has slowed down or stopped
    • A door that no longer sits square, or a seal that has gone warm to the touch
    Refrigerator repair
  • A tall integrated freezer column with two interior drawers pulled out to show frosted packets and a full ice bin, the door held open, white kitchen behind, cold blue interior light.

Fisher & Paykel freezer repair in Miami

Eight machines, and every one of them is an Integrated column meant to stand beside a refrigerator column behind matching cabinet fronts. Seven of the eight carry an ice maker, and one is a triple-zone machine with three independently controlled compartments. That is the whole row, and this card would rather say so than pad it.

    • Ice building up on the walls or around the drawers
    • A compartment drifting warm while the ice maker keeps going
    • A drawer or door that no longer seals against its frost-free frame
    Freezer repair
  • An integrated wine cabinet with a glass door under a pale stone worktop, dark timber racking behind the glass holding bottles on their sides, the interior lit cool and even.
    Integrated wine cabinets · Column wine · Beverage centers · Dual zone · 24" · Series 9 · Series 11

Fisher & Paykel wine cooler repair in Miami

Five machines: integrated wine cabinets, a full-height column wine cabinet, and two beverage centers. They are on one page because they are one repair — the same compressor, the same door seal, the same sensors and the same electronics, in a cabinet that happens to be holding bottles rather than cans.

    • A zone sitting two or three degrees off and staying there
    • A cabinet that runs constantly without reaching temperature
    • A door seal or a hinge on a heavy glass door
    Wine cooler repair
  • A double dish drawer dishwasher built into a pale kitchen run, the upper drawer pulled fully open with its flat lid raised clear of the tub, the empty basket dry, bright coastal daylight from the left.
    Single DishDrawer · Double DishDrawer · Tall · Drop door · Integrated · Series 5 · 7 · 9 · 11 · 24"

Fisher & Paykel dishwasher repair in Miami

Fifty-one machines, and forty of them are drawers. The DishDrawer is this maker's own invention and nothing else in a South Florida kitchen works the way it does: a lid that seals under motor pressure instead of a door, a wash system per drawer, and on a double, two machines that can run — and misbehave — independently of each other.

    • Detergent still sitting in the dispenser at the end of a cycle
    • A drawer that stops mid-cycle, beeps, and flashes its modifiers
    • Water under the machine, or a drawer that will not drain
    Dishwasher repair
  • A built-in wall oven with a flush handleless front of dark glass set in a tall pale oak column, the door closed and the glass clean and reflecting a bright coastal kitchen.
    Self-cleaning · Combi-steam · Convection speed · Double · Minimal · Contemporary · Professional · 24" · 30"

Fisher & Paykel oven repair in Miami

The largest row on this site: a hundred and ten wall ovens, and a third of them cook with steam. Forty-five are self-cleaning ovens, thirty-eight are combi-steam machines, twenty-eight are compact convection-speed ovens with a microwave system inside them, and six are doubles. A steam oven is a plumbed appliance with a boiler in it, and it does not fail the way an oven fails.

    • A display that is on while the oven does not heat
    • A door locked after a self-clean cycle and staying locked
    • A steam oven that will not fill, or leaves water where it should not
    Oven repair
  • A freestanding professional range in brushed stainless with a row of heavy stainless control knobs along its front, set in a bright coastal kitchen with pale timber cabinets, no flame lit.
    Professional gas · Dual fuel · Induction · Classic · 4 · 5 · 6 · 8 burner · Griddle · 30" · 36" · 48"

Fisher & Paykel range repair in Miami

Forty-one freestanding ranges, and the split tells you what this maker is: sixteen dual fuel, fifteen gas, seven induction and one electric. Twenty-seven of them are Professional — heavy grates, dual-flow burners, four to eight of them, and on the larger machines a griddle let into the top. On a 48-inch range, "the oven is not heating" means one of two ovens, and which one narrows the part before anybody drives anywhere.

    • A burner that will not light, or lights and drops out at low setting
    • The oven running hot or cold while looking perfectly healthy
    • An induction zone that cuts out under load while the others carry on
    Range repair
  • A flush black induction cooktop set into a dark stone worktop, photographed from a low angle along the surface, the glass clean and reflecting daylight, no zone lit and no markings visible.
    Induction · SmartZone · Gas · Rangetops · Teppanyaki · Electric · 12" · 24" · 30" · 36" · 48"

Fisher & Paykel cooktop repair in Miami

Forty-six machines and four different technologies under one word: seventeen induction cooktops, thirteen sealed gas, eleven professional rangetops, three electric and two teppanyaki plates. A rangetop is the top half of a professional range with nothing underneath it — the same grates, the same burners, the same repair — which is why it is on this page rather than a page of its own.

    • One induction zone cutting out while the rest keep going
    • Ignitors clicking without the burner lighting
    • Touch controls that stop responding, or dials that have become hard to turn
    Cooktop repair
  • A front-loading washing machine and dryer standing side by side in a bright white utility room, the washer door swung open on its empty stainless drum, folded towels on the counter above.

Fisher & Paykel washing machine repair in Miami

Read this first: Fisher & Paykel no longer lists a washing machine for the United States. Its US support site has a laundry section with nothing in it, and the Products menu has no fabric care in it at all. The machines are still here — South Florida laundry rooms are full of them — and the maker still sells laundry parts and stacking kits. We repair the ones that are here, and we would rather tell you where the line falls than let you find out at the parts stage.

    • A machine that fills and will not spin, or spins and will not drain
    • A load that will not balance, and a cabinet that walks
    • A lid lock or a door lock that keeps a finished cycle shut
    Washer repair
  • A front-loading dryer with the door open showing the empty ribbed drum lit from inside and the lint filter half withdrawn from its slot, a laundry basket on the floor, bright daylight.
Vented · Condenser · Heat pump · Stacked · AeroCare · Laundry closets

Fisher & Paykel dryer repair in Miami

The same situation as the washers: Fisher & Paykel lists no dryer for the United States today, and the ones in South Florida laundry rooms are still working and still repairable. What is worth knowing before you call is which kind you have — vented, condenser or heat pump — because the three fail in completely different places, and only one of them is about a duct.

    • Long cycles, or clothes still damp at the end of one
    • A drum that turns with no heat, or heat that cuts out part-way
    • Water where a condenser or heat pump machine should be emptying itself

In more detail

About Fisher & Paykel appliance maintenance visit

What is actually done

The maintenance this maker's own user guides ask for, which almost nobody does because almost all of it is behind a panel: condenser cleaning, door seals, water filters, dishwasher filters and spray arms, DishDrawer lid seals, burner caps and ports, induction clearances, steam oven descaling, and dryer ducts and sensor bars.

Why it matters more here

Salt on a condenser, humidity around an integrated column, mineral in a steam boiler, and a long damp duct run behind a laundry closet. Those are the four things that shorten the life of this equipment in South Florida, and all four are maintenance rather than repair.

Priced per visit

Because the travel and the setup are the bulk of the cost. On a kitchen where most of the machines come from one maker, this is the row that pays for itself.

Questions about fisher & Paykel appliance maintenance visit

Is this worth paying for?

It is worth it on this equipment more than on most, for two reasons. Almost all of it is built in, so the maintenance points are behind panels and grilles that people do not open. And the local conditions — salt, heat, humidity, hard water — attack exactly the parts maintenance addresses. A condenser cleaned once a year in Miami is not the same proposition as one cleaned once a year in Denver.

Can you do several appliances in one visit?

That is the point of this row and it is why it is priced per visit. The travel and the setup are the bulk of what any service call costs, so a second and third appliance seen at the same time costs far less than a second and third appointment. Tell us what is in the kitchen when you book.

What is descaling and does my oven need it?

If your oven cooks with steam, yes, and it is the maintenance this line most needs. A steam oven has a boiler, and a boiler in this water accumulates mineral that eventually produces exactly the symptoms people book as a pump failure. The machine has its own descale cycle; running it at the interval the maker asks for is the whole of the advice.

Will you just tell me everything needs replacing?

No, and the written note is how you hold us to that. It lists what was cleaned, what was checked and found fine, and anything genuinely worth watching. A maintenance visit that turns into a quote for four repairs is a sales call, and it is not what this is.
