Fisher & Paykel dishwasher control & motor repair
The end of the list rather than the beginning: a wash controller, a motor controller, a rotor or a communication error between two drawers. On this maker these are the conditions that report as an F — a flashing pattern on a drawer, an F30 to F90 on a drop-door — and the maker says outright that most of them need somebody.
- From $95 diagnostic, credited to the repair

01
Read the pattern, not the guess
A DishDrawer has no display: an F condition shows as the wash modifier and lock indicators flashing together with program lights lit. The maker publishes what the F numbers behind that pattern mean — flood, rotor, water temperature, element, lid motor, drying fan, fill valve, motor controller, wash controller, and communication between drawers.
-
02
Rule out the cheap end of an expensive list
F1 is flood or excess foaming and the maker's own first instruction is to leave the machine off overnight and run a cycle without detergent. F2 is the rotor, and debris around it comes out with a hand rather than a part. Two of the ten F conditions are not a board.
-
03
Test the motor side before the control side
A motor controller is diagnosed from what the motor does, not from the code alone. This is the step that separates a rotor, a motor and a controller — three parts with three very different figures.
-
04
Then the controller, and only then
On a double there are two wash controllers and two motor controllers, and a communication error between drawers is its own condition rather than either board failing. Which one is established before anything is ordered.
-
05
Refit, align and run
If the machine came out of an opening it goes back and the cabinet panel is aligned, and a full cycle runs before the appointment ends.
The money
What this usually costs in South Florida
The starting figure, the range the market quotes around it, and what pushes a job to either end.
-
Dishwasher control & motor repair cost
The highest dishwashing row, and the one where we are most likely to advise against the repair. A double DishDrawer carries two wash controllers and two motor controllers, and that is the reason the figure sits where it does.
- Quoted only after the rotor and the free causes are excluded
- Two of everything on a double, and which one matters
- An honest view when a machine is not worth it

Fifty-one machines, and forty of them are drawers. The DishDrawer is this maker's own invention and nothing else in a South Florida kitchen works the way it does: a lid that seals under motor pressure instead of a door, a wash system per drawer, and on a double, two machines that can run — and misbehave — independently of each other.
- Detergent still sitting in the dispenser at the end of a cycle
- A drawer that stops mid-cycle, beeps, and flashes its modifiers
- Water under the machine, or a drawer that will not drain

About Fisher & Paykel dishwasher control & motor repair
What is on this page
The wash controller, the motor controller, the rotor and the communication link between the two drawers of a double. On a drop-door machine, the F30, F40, F50 and F90 conditions the maker publishes — flooding, water flow, electronics and data — plus FA0 and FC0 on the machines that use them.
Why the F conditions come last
Because two of the ten have an owner-side answer and the maker says so. F1 is flood or foaming, and the published instruction is power off overnight and a cycle with no detergent. F2 is the rotor, and debris around it is cleared rather than replaced. Everything after that — element, lid motor, drying fan, fill valve, and the two controllers — is a technician's job, which is what the maker prints and what we do.
What decides the cost
Which board, whether the machine has to come out, and on a double whether one drawer or both. Where the total approaches the value of the appliance, you get told that instead of a quote.

Questions about fisher & Paykel dishwasher control & motor repair
The controls do not respond at all.
Three things before a board. Wet fingers — these are touch controls and water on your hand confuses them. The control lock, which is easy to set without meaning to. And sleep mode, which looks like a dead panel. The maker publishes all three as the causes of "controls not working", and they cost nothing to rule out.
Why is this the most expensive dishwashing row?
Because a double DishDrawer has two of every controller, and because the part is an electronic assembly rather than a mechanical component. It is also the row where we are most likely to tell you the repair is not worth doing — on an older machine with two controllers gone, that is a conversation we have before ordering rather than after.
It shows F1. Is that a board?
Usually not. F1 on a DishDrawer is flood detected or excess foaming, and the maker's own instruction is to turn the power off, leave the machine overnight, then run a cycle with no detergent — and if it clears, to use no more than a teaspoon in future. Only if water is actually visible on the floor does it become a service call. That is the maker's advice and it is also ours.
One drawer says something the other does not.
That is expected. They are two machines. What is worth telling us is whether both drawers report at the same moment, because a communication error between the two is its own condition and it is neither controller failing.
